The landscapes Rebecca depicts are a composite of figurative elements, discrete natural phenomena, recorded with charcoal, ink and photography. These elements are then layered, distorted and combined to resemble the recorded landscape but from a different perspective of place.
The key element to her practice is the layering process. The compositions often evolve into psychological landscapes. The photopolymer plate becomes a site of translation, where drawing and photography are transformed. The resulting works invite the viewer into a space of memory and abstraction in which the recognisable softens into ambiguous topographies with dream like surfaces, suggesting inner geographies that resist complete articulation.
